Asking for reviews is allowed and encouraged. How you ask is what Google’s policies and UK law care about. The add-on is built to keep you on the right side of both, and these are the rules it follows.

Ask everyone the same way

Filtering who gets asked by how they feel is review gating. That includes a “rate us first” step that only sends happy customers to Google, a private feedback form for the unhappy ones, and quietly leaving out a customer whose job went badly.

Google removes reviews it finds were gathered that way. Since April 2025 the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act also treats it as hiding negative reviews, which is an unfair commercial practice.

So every customer gets the same message with the same link, and there’s no option to send it only to happy ones. The No Review badge is for customers who aren’t yours to ask and people who asked not to be contacted, never for unhappy customers.

No rewards, no pressure

  • Nothing is offered in return for a review: no discount, no prize draw.
  • Messages don’t ask for a particular rating.
  • The request goes two hours after the job, when whoever did it has left, and the print cards leave it to the customer. Google doesn’t allow pressing for a review on the spot.

No staff names

Messages come from the business. There’s no way to put the engineer’s name in them, the thank-you is signed by you or the office, and nobody is ranked by reviews. Google doesn’t allow asking customers to name staff, or review targets per person.

Who you can message

The request follows up a job the customer has just had from you, which is why you tick These only go to customers we’ve done a job for before switching on. Each customer gets three messages at most, only between 09:00 and 20:00, and none once they’ve opened the link or replied.

Opt-outs

Every review email has a link to stop review requests. Using it stops them for good, by text, WhatsApp and email, and it can’t be undone from the add-on. If a customer asks you directly, put the No Review badge on their client card.

Showing reviews fairly

The website widget shows every star rating, not only the best, and labels them as your latest Google reviews. Choosing only five-star reviews to display would mislead people.
